The chimney must smoke

Adriana Affortunati | Visual installations

The installations presented on the second floor of Grub Castle are in acute dialogue with the architecture, highlighting its elements.
Even if Adriana is inspired to produce by the material itself, her artworks end up touching on historical themes extremely linked to the local culture (salt, coal, money, luxury, externals). Fittingly, their working methods, documented in videos, recall the hard work of salt miners.
All the elements that make up the 5 installations were found on site. To complete the artworks, Adriana invited a visual writer who has a close connection with the city to visit the place and contribute some words. Deplacement is a key word in her process, as well as literature and everything related to it – which is a reason to say that a castle could only fit well. An uninhabited one, of course.
